Small Serissa Bonsai
🌱 This tree has found a home. Every Sacred Bamboo tree is a one-of-one piece of art — but its siblings below are still looking for theirs.
Care guide
- Species
- Serissa japonica (Serissa)
- Light
- Brightest window you have — east-facing is ideal, south-facing works if very bright. Rotate weekly. Drops leaves quickly if light is insufficient.
- Water
- Most common failure point. Keep evenly moist — never soggy, never bone-dry. Indoors usually every 1–2 days; smaller pots dry fastest. Consistency beats any schedule.
- Soil
- Free-draining bonsai mix that holds a little moisture.
- Feed
- Balanced feed every 2 weeks in growing season; lighter in winter.
- Where
- Indoor 18–26°C; keep away from air-conditioners, heaters, and drafty windows. Hates temperature swings.
- Notes
- Star-shaped fragrant blooms in warm, bright conditions — flowers in both white and purple. The other name is 'tree of a thousand stars'; smells unpleasant when handled. Don't prune heavily during flowering if you want the blooms to hold; flowers drop faster indoors with low light. Dislikes being moved — settle a spot and leave it.
